The future of the NHS....

Here is a random report from a random hospital near Birmingham.

They propose to lose 300 jobs in all areas.

Will this affect clinical services?

Of course it will - they are the first of many.

Weep, oh weep about the future........

I heard today that our Trust is planning redundancies. This is because the PCT has decided that quite a few conditions that my specialty deals with can be managed in the community. To be precise they think all of the conditions we deal with can be managed in the community. As a result our income will plummet so we have to shed staff to balance the books. Now you might think that the money we used to get will be transferred to the community so that people like JD will have the resources to do the work that was once done by the hospital. But I see no evidence for this. Quite possibly the GPs are going to have to pick up the work without being given any extra resources.
