Storm Clouds

The storm clouds are now gathering. My God, it has taken them long enough.

A committee of MPs, led by a Conservative, have started to savage the Health and Social Care Bill. This wretched piece of half-arsed legislation, cooked up in secret by a zealot, his office partly funded by a private health, and dumped on unsuspecting public is now needing life support.

The Royal Colleges are due to meet soon to decide their attitude to the Bill (really slow and really late).

The storm clouds are gathering.

Why are Lansley and Cameron not backing down on this bill? Even if one were to ignore all of the mounting opposition, the parlous state of the economy should make any sane minister pause before a very costly reorganisation.

I cannot believe that Cameron wants to be remembered for presiding over the decline of the NHS. Are not senior politicians ever mindful of their "legacy"?

It is likely that the real reasons for this bill will never be openly declared, and bear no relation to the arguments made to the public. Equally, no amount of open opposition will be heeded; the only opinions and advice that count with Mr Cameron are those given quietly by vested private interests behind closed doors.

Whatever the results of this sad situation, we will all pay for it in the end and Cameron and his friends are rich enough to buy themselves out of the system as it crumbles. We are not ALL in this together!
