I will be at a meeting tonight when my MP will be coming to meet the Patient Panel. Despite the crushingly exhausting week that I have had, I think it would be nice to meet the MP to at least given them a perspective from the coalface of English General Practice.
This MP is an assured performer on the TV, and very intelligent. The MP will attend with answers prepared for questions that are yet to be asked.
I will be civil, and scrupulously polite on a personal level. I will however tell my MP what Jobbing Doctors think of the new legislation, and make sure the MP is aware that, in a 'swing' constituency, that the changes that will happen over the next few years in Health Care that result in longer waiting lists, and extra bureaucracy, and hospitals shutting down, and treatments denied will all be laid at the feet of the coalition Government. And rightly so. By the time of the next election, the anger of the people of being lied to will be all too apparent.
So when the MPs troop through the door that is marked "Ayes", the sign - for many of them (my MP included) - should be marked P45s*
*For international readers the P45 is the form you get when you lose your job.
